JUST IN: OVER 1000 STUDENT'S GETS FREE SANITARY PADS DURING THE FCT PAD A GIRL CAMPAIGN

The aim of the project was to highlight the attack of period poverty on the education of the girl child and how access to pads and sanitary materials can help protect the education of the girl child against the attack of period poverty.

The pioneer mandate secretary on children and women affairs to the FCT, Hon. Dr. Adedayo Benjamin spoke extensively on how expedient it is to protect the girl child from period poverty, which poses as an attack to her education through giving her access to sanitary materials.

She commended the committee for setting up such an important event and highly recommended that more of projects like this with male students inclusive will be held in future times.

She stated that a pad bank would be provided in the university where girls will gain access to pads and other sanitary items for free, or at a minimal cost which elicited excitement and applause from the female students present.

The acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Aisha Sani Maikudu, represented in person of Dr. Gloria Shajobi-Ibikunle was highly pleased with Hon. Ifesinachi Donald and called him a "he for she" for setting up such a significant project aimed at empowering the education of the girl child.

Each participant was given free sanitary pads at the end of the program, which is a stepping stone of measures that will be taken to help eliminate the attack of period poverty on the education of the girl child, with over 1000 students benefiting.
