The National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), University of Abuja chapter has been embroiled in a corruption scandal, with the current executives led by Comr. Precious Oj. and Comr. Ifeoma E. Nwajei, accused of embezzling funds meant for bursary and scholarship benefits. The situation has taken a turn for the worse, as the executives have refused to conduct elections and handover to a new team, despite having graduated for a long period, as against the school association and club laws as documented in the University of Abuja students handbook and as the students affairs division internal memo; Ref:UA/SAD/24
According to sources within the student body, the current executives have been accused of mismanaging funds meant for student welfare. The executives have allegedly used the funds for personal gain, rather than disbursing them to deserving students as they've failed to account for their term in office.
Furthermore, the executives have refused to conduct elections, despite their tenure having ended. This has led to a power vacuum, with the current executives clinging to power and refusing to handover to a new team.
The students have called on the Directorate of Students Affairs and the directorate of Safety Unit to intervene in the matter. The students are demanding that the executives be held accountable for their actions and that a new election be conducted to usher in a new team.
"We are tired of being led by a group of corrupt individuals who are only interested in enriching themselves," said a student who wished to remain anonymous. "We need a new team that will prioritize our welfare and work in our best interests."
The corruption scandal rocking the National Association of Delta State Students is a clear indication of the need for accountability and transparency in student leadership. The students deserve better, and it is time for the current executives to be held accountable for their actions.
We call on the Directorate of Students Affairs and the Safety Unit to intervene in this matter and ensure that justice is served. The students deserve a leadership that is transparent, accountable, and committed to their welfare.
