In a gesture aimed at supporting students during the festive season, President Bola Tinubu has distributed bags of rice to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative, facilitated by Special Adviser on Students Engagement Asefon Sunday, demonstrates the President's commitment to valuing students as leaders of today, not just tomorrow.
According to Asefon, the distribution of rice, initially planned for December 2024, arrived late in Abuja on December 28. Representatives from each zone were invited to Abuja to receive the items personally, with two SUG Presidents from each zone selected to oversee and manage the distribution process.
Asefon hailed this initiative as unprecedented, stating that "for the first time in this country, a sitting President is directly reaching out to student leaders during the festive season." He assured students of more benefits under the Presidential initiative in 2024, emphasizing the importance of students engaging actively with the government.
Fahad Abdullahi, SUG President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, expressed gratitude on behalf of the student leaders, acknowledging the President's efforts to support students during the festive season.
