University of Abuja, Nigeria - February 14, 2025

As the day breaks over the sprawling campus of the University of Abuja, a palpable sense of excitement and nervous energy fills the air of this young morning, 00:53AM GMT +1. Today, February 14th, is Valentine's Day, and the student community is abuzz with anticipation.

For many, this day is a celebration of love, friendship, and affection. But for others, it's a day of anxiety, as they scramble to prove their devotion to their significant others. The pressure is on, and the stakes are high.

As I mused around the campus, I'm struck by the vibrant colors and creative displays of affection. Heart-shaped balloons and streamers adorn the buildings, while students exchange gifts, cards, and sweet nothings. The atmosphere is electric, and the sense of community is palpable.

But amidst all the joy and revelry, there's a hint of competitiveness in the air. The female students, in particular, seem to be vying for attention, their eyes scanning the crowds for signs of affection from their loved ones. The pressure to receive gifts, attention, and affirmation is palpable, and some students admit to feeling anxious about being overlooked.

Yet, as I speak with students from various departments and faculties, I'm struck by their resilience, creativity, and determination. Despite the challenges and pressures, they're determined to make this day special, to show their loved ones that they care.

As the Student Union Government (SUG) Chairman of Inter-Faculty Affairs, I'm proud to serve this vibrant community of students. Today, as we celebrate Valentine's Day, I want to pledge my love and devotion to this institution, to the students who make it thrive, and to the spirit of community that binds us together.

To my fellow students, I say: regardless of whether you're in a relationship or not, today is a day to celebrate love in all its forms. Love for ourselves, love for our community, and love for the institution that nurtures us.

Remember the 14th Commandment; "Love thy neighbour as you love thyself".

As the day draws to a start, I'm left with a sense of awe and appreciation for this incredible community. Despite the challenges and pressures, we've come together to celebrate love, friendship, and affection. And as I look out at the sea of faces, I know that I'm proud to be a part of this vibrant, dynamic, and loving community.

Happy Valentine's Day, University of Abuja!
