The Dean of Student Affairs of the prestigious Yakubu Gowon University,Dr. Idoko Sunday Idoko has officially inaugurated the 2025 Students’ Union Government (SUG) Electoral Committee, tasking the 30-member team with the critical responsibility of overseeing the university’s upcoming student elections.
The committee, constituted under the provisions of the SUG constitution, is charged with conducting transparent and credible elections for the SUG Executive, SUG Senate, and hall governors. During the inauguration ceremony, the Dean commended the committee members, describing them as one of the university’s most vital bodies. He urged them to execute their duties with utmost professionalism, emphasizing the importance of their role in shaping the university’s student leadership.
In a stern warning, the Dean cautioned that any member found sabotaging the committee’s work or prioritizing personal interests over the principles of transparency and credibility would face severe consequences. “Your integrity is non-negotiable,” he stated, underscoring the university’s commitment to a fair electoral process.
The Dean further directed the committee to commence work immediately, ensuring that the sale of nomination forms and other preparatory activities are rolled out promptly. He stressed the need for efficiency, urging the team to work collaboratively to uphold the reputation of Yakubu Gowon University’s SUG as a model of excellence.
In his closing remarks, the Dean reassured the committee of the university management’s non-interference in the electoral process, promising a level playing field for all candidates.
