Yakubu Gowon University SUG Constitutional Drafting Committee Holds Successful Press Conference

The Constitutional Drafting Committee of the Yakubu Gowon University Students’ Union Government (SUG) held a triumphant press conference today at the Faculty of Agriculture Theatre Building, marking a significant milestone in the development of a new student governance framework.

The event, attended by students, faculty, and media representatives, was led by the committee’s chairman, Distinguished Senator Abdullahi Muhammed Danzaria. In his address, Senator Danzaria expressed profound gratitude to the student community for their unwavering support throughout the drafting process. “We are deeply appreciative of the trust and encouragement from our fellow students. Your support has been the backbone of our efforts,” he said.

Senator Danzaria announced that the new constitution adopts a presidential system, a transformative shift aimed at enhancing the efficiency and inclusivity of student governance. He assured students of “great changes” that will elevate the university’s academic and social environment. “This constitution is designed to make our school a better place, with features that address the needs and aspirations of every student,” he added.

The Chairman also promised that every bona-fide student of Yakubu Gowon University will get a copy of the constitution as he si set to print thirty thousand copies for the students. 

The committee’s Public Relations Officer, Senator Ifesinachi Donald Udoka, also addressed the audience, urging students to embrace modern values and adaptability. “We have embedded a 21st-century lifestyle in this constitution. It reflects the dynamic and progressive spirit of our generation, and we encourage every student to align with these forward-thinking principles,” Senator Udoka stated.

The press conference concluded with an interactive session, where committee members fielded questions from students and journalists, reaffirming their commitment to transparency and collaboration. The new constitution is expected to be unveiled soon, pending final reviews and approval.

The successful event has sparked optimism among the student body, with many expressing excitement about the promised reforms. As Yakubu Gowon University prepares for this new chapter, the Constitutional Drafting Committee’s efforts signal a bold step toward a more vibrant and responsive student union.
