H.E Ojooluwa Ibiloye, a proud alumnus of the University of Abuja and former Secretary General of the Political Science Students Association, has achieved a remarkable milestone in the United States. The Nigerian doctoral student in Public Policy and Administration at the University of Delaware has been elected president of the Biden School Student Association (BSSA) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The election results, announced on Tuesday by Monica Esterling, the academic support coordinator at the Joseph R. Biden Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration, mark a significant moment for Ibiloye and his alma mater.

“We were excited to see you step up to represent your peers and improve the student experience at the Biden School,” Esterling said in her official remarks. As president, Ibiloye will lead the BSSA, representing students across three undergraduate majors, six master’s programs, and four doctoral programs, acting as the vital link between the student body and the school’s administration.

A Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Ithaca Graduate Fellow, Ibiloye outlined an ambitious agenda in his victory speech, emphasizing service and leadership. “We will build a more connected community that reflects our commitment to service, leadership, and learning,” he declared. His plans include launching a quarterly student-led policy dialogue series, fostering stronger ties with alumni and policy practitioners, and introducing a Student of the Month initiative to celebrate academic and professional excellence. Additionally, he proposed an Academic and Cultural Exchange Week to honor the diverse experiences within the student community.

Ibiloye’s leadership journey is deeply rooted in his Nigerian heritage and his time at the prestigious University of Abuja, where he served as a senator in the Federation of Ogbomoso Students Union and Secretary General of the Political Science Students Association. His commitment to public service continued during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jos South, Plateau State, where he led a community development service group and spearheaded an anti-corruption education campaign for local youth.

In the United States, Ibiloye has further honed his leadership skills, serving as secretary of the University of Delaware’s chapter of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and completing prestigious programs such as the Mandela Washington Fellowship of the U.S. Department of State and the McCain Fellowship for Freedom with the International Republican Institute (IRI).

The University of Abuja community has expressed immense pride in Ibiloye’s accomplishments. His election as BSSA president underscores the global impact of the institution’s alumni and serves as an inspiration to current students. As Ibiloye steps into this new role, his vision for a more engaged and inclusive student community promises to leave a lasting legacy at the Biden School.
