University of Abuja SUG Honours AMAC INEC Electoral Officer with Award of Excellence

In a landmark gesture of appreciation and recognition, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Abuja on Wednesday, October 2, 2025, conferred an Award of Excellence on Mallam Kabir Bello, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Electoral Officer in charge of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), FCT.

The award was presented in acknowledgment of Mallam Bello’s zealous and selfless dedication to ensuring that students are not silenced or disenfranchised in the ongoing electoral process. His efforts to guarantee that all qualified students obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been widely commended as a significant step in empowering young Nigerians to participate in nation-building.

The award ceremony was led by Comr. Umar Shehu Aliyu (Director of Transport), Comr. Atiku Bakoji (Director of Welfare), and Comr. Ifesinachi Donald Udoka (President, UniAbuja Les Avocats Chapter), who jointly highlighted the importance of the electoral officer’s contribution to strengthening democracy and student participation.

In his acceptance speech, Mallam Bello expressed heartfelt gratitude to the SUG and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), describing the honour as his first-ever award. He reaffirmed his commitment to deepening collaboration with students to ensure that all eligible undergraduates are registered and empowered to vote in the forthcoming elections.

“This recognition means a lot to me. It is a call to do even more in supporting students and ensuring that their voices count in the democratic process,” he remarked.

The SUG described the award as a symbol of appreciation for Mallam Bello’s integrity, accessibility, and tireless efforts to make students part of the democratic journey.

This event underscores the growing resolve of University of Abuja students to not only participate in governance but also to celebrate public servants who prioritize fairness, inclusivity, and national progress.
