Hot Topic: Dreamers with shovel; A call to serve.

We in the University of Abuja today are nearer to the final triumph over autocratic student's government than ever before in the history of any institution.

A student once asked his professor, Albert Einstein,"These are the same questions you asked on last year's exam. Nothing has changed, professor"

Einstein answered, "It is true that all of the questions are the same,but this year,all of the answers are different."

Yeah, it's still the same parliamentary system of government that is still being practiced in our SUG and yeah,it's still same old faces with a new touch of new SRA'S, but the wine tastes different. For the element of change is at the core of all trends. Past trends and current trends impact future trends, yet you can be assured that future trends will be different. It is those differences that make them difficult to spot. Still, it is possible to read the tea leaves, and those who can,will enjoy an advantage over the consumption. So, anticipate great things for this administration.

We all are about to enter upon another session of the responsibility which we the students,through the matriculation oath, has placed in our hands. Having come so far,it is fitting that we should pause to survey the ground which we have covered and the paths that lie ahead.

That is why I make this specific recommendation- that each and every one of you that is interested in obtaining the facts and in spreading those facts abroad, each and every one you interested in getting at the truth that lies somewhere behind the smokescreen of charges and counter charges of students campaign,constitute yourself a committee of one. To do this, you need no parchment certificate. To do this, you need no title. To do this, you need only your own conviction, your own intelligence, and your own belief in the highest duty of the students populace.

To act as such a committee of one, you will need only your own appointment,an appointment which carries with it some efforts,some obligations on your part to carry out the task you have assigned yourself. You'll have to run down statements made to you by others, which you may believe to be false. You will need to analyse the motives of those who make assertions to you about the government. You will need to make an inventory in your own faculty, in order that you may check and recheck for yourself and thereby be in a position to answer those who have been misled or those who would mislead.

For the values of government is understood by men who knows that government is still a living force in their lives-they know that the value of government depends on the interest which they display in it and the knowledge they have of its policies.

The government can be no better than the public opinion, which sustains it,so let's come together to build a strong student union.
