When food is life

Whether you’re a foodie who loves trying multiple dishes at fancy restaurants or someone who sees food as nothing but fuel, we all have one thing in common—we need to eat to survive. This simple fact makes food an integral part of our lives. But what exactly is food? Food is defined by Webster as "material made mostly of protein, carbohydrates, and fat that is used by an organism to grow, keep vital processes running, and give it energy." That’s just a complicated way of saying any substance you consume that sustains, energizes, helps heal, and provides you with valuable nutrition

Understanding the physical health benefits of different foods is, of course, something essential. Perhaps, though, it’s time we take a step back and look at food from every angle. Knowing the different roles that food plays can help us look at our eating habits in a more complete way.

Food is at the centre of much of what we do in our everyday lives, transcending cultures and traditions. Consider that almost every ceremony, holiday, and even our work and business environments have food somewhere in the mix. What is Thanksgiving without dinner? What are Christmas, Easter, religious days, Independence Day, graduations, birthdays, business dinners, or business lunches? Food has the power to unite us and tie us to history, rituals, and traditions.

The more you explore every aspect of food, the better your relationship with it will be.

Until next week.
