NUESA EXCLUSIVE: Parliament Elections 2023: A New Model for Shared Governance

On Friday 17th December, 2023, the Nuesa Parliament conducted the election for her 9th Assembly leaders.

The election was held at Lecture Hall,Block A mini Campus. 

The objective of creating the Student Parliament is to provide a platform for students to develop leadership qualities by organizing and carrying out school political activities and to act as link between the students and the NUESA Executive by representing the interest of the students.

They help share student ideas, interests, and concerns with the school wide community.

The days leading up to elections were marked with campaigns from the various candidates, each vying for the votes of their fellow members.

As the campaign season came to a close, those vying were given a final opportunity to highlight and pitch their propositions to the members.

In the preliminary round, The Nuesa 8th Assembly Speaker who presided the election as stipulated by the Nuesa constitution,sorted for the opinion of all members,as he nullified the shamble election held on 16th December 2023,on grounds of merit,citing the Nuesa  constitution.

While all members observed and witnessed the open ballot election, and the candidates waited with bated breath, the votes were tallied, and the results announced.

We introduce to you the elected and inaugurated Nuesa 9th Assembly.

As the stratizens usher in a new season of Parliamentarian leadership, we recognize and appreciate the outgoing Nuesa 8th Parliament leaders, who over the past year, and under the guidance of the Speaker, Rt Hon. Abdullahi Muhammad, have introduced initiatives and carried forward the legacy of the student leaders that came before them.

Today,for Mother Faculty is a day to be remembered as a section of her constitution is fulfilled, no wonder the past Speaker made this notable remark,"the constitution we believe".
