The first day of lectures can be daunting for some students but not for me and my fellow counsellors as we had our best experience of the semester today, justifying our favourite lecturers saying–arriving early for class can change your life.
Lectures form the foundation of our learning here at the University because it allows experts to share their knowledge, enthusiasm and experience about their particular field of research and it is responsible for imparting some of life’s most important lessons to students.
Today I had my first lecture for the semester, it was Organization and Administration of Guidance services in school, and was at dawn today. I spent most of the time before the lecture on transit from mini-Campus to main campus, worrying about whether it's really worth it to be in class today. I still hadn't worked out my timetable for the semester and was worrying that I was missing bits. There was a slight chance I would turn up at this lecture and be told that I had already missed something I should have attended and so when I checked and saw I was 3-minutes late,I immediately forgot my usual shuttle ground okpa and coke breakfast.
The lecturer is someone who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential and see the best in ourselves, for her unwritten rules have shaped our mentality not just as counsellors but as leaders in our society.
No student in the department of Guidance and Counseling will ever miss Dr. Bunmi Ojji's interesting lectures even though its our first lecture for the semester, so I wasn't surprised when I met a full class today.
With her usual smile, the more like 'mother and children' sort of class kick-started with our normal praying before lectures routine, allowing us to chat the course for the new session with God,followed by our uniformed pledge of allegiance to our country by reciting the second stanza of our National Anthem.
Yeah,it is fun, seeing some students share their last holidays testimonies and it's really encouraging allowing us to share our experience of her teaching techniques and strategies.
The best time of the lessons was the time, some students leaders of the class, confessed our love andadmiration for Dr. Bunmi Ojji. We expressed how her teachings have not only equipped us with academic knowledge but have also instilled in us a sense of purpose and responsibility as future guidance counselors.
As the lecture progressed, Dr. Ojji delved into the intricate details of organization and administration in guidance services within schools. Her passion for the subject matter was palpable, and her real-world examples brought the theoretical concepts to life. We were not just learning about the principles; we were absorbing the essence of the profession.
The interactive nature of the class made the learning experience more enriching. Dr. Ojji encouraged us to share our thoughts, ask questions, and engage in discussions. This created a dynamic atmosphere where ideas flowed freely, fostering a sense of community among us aspiring counselors.
One of the remarkable aspects of Dr. Ojji's teaching style is her ability to connect with each student personally. She knows us by name and takes a genuine interest in our growth. Today's lecture wasn't just about textbooks and academic theories; it was about understanding the practical implications of the knowledge we were gaining.
As the class continued, I couldn't help but appreciate the camaraderie within our cohort. The shared passion for the subject and the collective goal of making a positive impact in the lives of others created a strong sense of unity among us.
Towards the end of the lecture, Dr. Ojji challenged us to think beyond the classroom and envision ourselves as future leaders in the field of guidance and counseling. Her words resonated with us, igniting a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
Leaving the lecture hall, I felt invigorated and reassured that choosing this field of study was indeed the right decision. Dr. Ojji's guidance extends beyond academic knowledge; it reaches into the realm of personal and professional development.
As my fellow counselors and I exited the lecture hall, we couldn't help but discuss the wealth of insights we gained and the anticipation for the upcoming classes. The first day of lectures might be daunting for some, but for us, it was a reaffirmation of our chosen path and a glimpse into the transformative journey that lies ahead in the semester.
