NUESA LIFESTYLE: What all freshers must know about Uniabuja.

It was just yesterday; I can vividly remember how I leapt for joy when I saw my name posited on the University of Abuja Admission second list, after my fervent prayers. For me, it was not complete happiness because I had wanted to study Journalism and communication studies but unfortunately got myself in Education;a decision that I now cherish.

Immediately,I began to fantasize about life in Uniabuja; how I intend to make outstanding grades, set up a landmark, being an agent of change, burn for Christ – so many desires but the first challenge came on my first day in school,as I had my predecessors repeating the popular saying in campus, "uniabuja is not for the weak",immediately I was overtaken by fear which I was able to defeat from experience.
So I figured-out,to write out the lessons I've learnt so far, so as to aid some freshers in the system.

Firstly, Respect all lecturers and get ready to endure the pains and frustrations of some of your lecturers,so ensure you eat something before going to classes in the morning, because sometimes, lectures meant for 8:00am,end up holding 2:00pm. In addition, unforseen circumstances might make you return home at 6 pm.
So, eat well, make you for see front.

Yeah,Birds of a feather flocks together,so don't allow people to choose you as a friend, rather make your choice, make friends with students with similar goals as you, and choose guys and girls who will challenge you to be better than you are currently.

Also,100Level is the best time to start building a solid foundation for a successful academic record,so try balancing your academics and social life.
Yeah,You can start skipping lectures when your course load reduces but never skip lectures as a fresher because this is where your CGPA foundation begins.
Try to make a first class for the first two semesters because other level is going to become tougher,so that even if ur CGPA drops u won’t feel it that much and you can get back on track better.

If you start poorly here, you might not graduate with the result of your dream; for those with a vision, and note the University can withdraw you from your course if you fail to meet the stipulated departmental grade.

Most importantly, watch your tongue, not everyone in school is your playmate or age mate.

If unguided, your tongue could cost your life in school, especially when no one could see it coming. There is a different calibre of students in the University, some students are informants to lecturers, bad groups, etc.

So, do not talk nasty about your lecturers in your class WhatsApp group chat.A student can screenshot and send it to a lecturer. It can land you in deep trouble, so stay clear from trouble! .The last thing you want for yourself is being involved with the school authorities, because expulsion and rustication of a student is not a great deal for uniabuja to decide when the facts are clear before the disciplinary panel. So, when you smell trouble, dust your feet and skedaddle! Be woke!

⚠️ Be religious.Yes! In the University of Abuja, you need more than hardwork, smartness and the required attendance. Lecturers can be wicked, the tech unit staff of the school that works with your registration of courses can make mistakes. Point is, there are a number of things that can go wrong and threaten to extend your stay in the school. Hold your GOD tight! Build a relationship with him. Join a religious circle that can pray with you and strengthen you when things get tough. Believe me, you will be glad you took this advice.

Manage your time wisely, because time is PRECIOUS. I can't over-emphasize this,so guard it like your only child. Have a schedule, a to-do list, a plan.

Learn from your predecessors. Your best sounding board for your specific course of study are the 200 & 300 Level students in your department. They know the courses you're about to take and have made their mistakes. They also know the lectures you're about to work with and how best to work and relate with them. Walk up to them and ask about the do's and don'ts of each course/lecturer. WARNING!!! ASK ONLY THE RIGHT PEOPLE. Only ask the best performing students among your seniors, for one reason: They've have achieved the kind of results you are seeking to achieve, so they are your best guides.

100 Level is your period for keen observation and wise decision making, so pace yourself and don't loose sight that you are here to learn first.

Finally,observe all protocols.
Dress well ,smell good ,be neat and organized, mind you business because it saves a lot.

Fun and focused is the goal.
