It is hard to believe that Ewiwe(Don't be angry) was born during a time when women had to fight for their right to play football. From the time that Nigeria was born in 1960, women led a suffrage movement where they dared to challenge the suffocating grip of their societal norms, fueled by their burning desire for equality. It is the unyielding spirit of these suffragists that inspire young women and men like me to chase after dreams with courage and determination and support the women.

Oftentimes, textbooks fail to highlight the discoveries and innovations of women. We learn about Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford...the list goes on. It becomes more difficult; however, to name innovative women in history.

Ewiwe(Don't be angry) was born in 135 Capital, during the Nigeria civil war and so she learnt things the hard way.

She loved football ⚽️ more than anything else and she played very much like men, she'd confide in me one day,"Football is love, this is the only game that I played freely with the Nigerian soldiers without being beaten by the soldiers,or my parents.

Yes,my parents were angry that I played with the Nigeria soldiers but they do not want to inflict the anger of the soldiers who were now very fond of a female playing football for the first time.
At 12,my world came crashing down on me. The life I thought I had built for myself turned out to be a well- planned illusion, which I had fallen for. Following the worst moments of my life was a series of heartbreak which resulted in me losing my freedom.

It all started when the Nigerian Dailytimes reported that the colonists threatened to forbid any playing ground that allowed women to play and even after the sit-ins or stand-offs hark protest across the South Eastern Nigeria, the colonist didn't give much ear to our crys, rather the homosexuality rumours grew like wild fire in the whole Africa.
This ended my football career,as the whole community sees all female footballer as a homosexual, giving my Dad a hedge to totally ban me from playing football and as a means of compensating me,my family showered me with fake love for the next 7 days in what became my worst nightmare-mutilating my genitals to show affirm the traditions of the land that I am ready for marriage.

This female genital mutilation (FGM) made me loose pounds of blood and reduced my strength, though unknown to my parents who thought they were doing good to me,it also reduced my chances of playing professional football, as I could no longer handle strong duty for a long time.

I got married the next year and took in but unfortunately for me,this was my last days on earth. During my delivery,I couldn't do more than my powers,as I loosed more blood from the FGM injuries and memories.

She died why trying to put to bed due to the female genital mutilation.

Ewiwe is strong and deserves not to be tagged a homosexual just because she's built with a male physique.

Happy International Women’s Day to all women making us proud in the table where decisions are being made, today.
