Tinubu Approves Federal Polytechnic in Abuja, Names It After Himself: A New Era for Education in Abuja

ABUJA, Nigeria - In a move aimed at promoting technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal polytechnic in Gwarinpa, a suburb of Abuja, the nation's capital.
The institution, named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, is expected to provide training in line with the national policy on education. The approval was conveyed in a letter dated January 16, 2025, addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
The establishment of the polytechnic has been hailed as a major boost to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, commended President Tinubu for approving the institution, saying it would add to the progress of FCT residents.
The Minister of Education has requested the FCT Minister to suggest proposed locations for the temporary and permanent sites of the polytechnic in Gwarinpa. A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will visit the sites and inspect the recommended locations. Based on the team's report, final approval will be given.
The establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, marks a new era for education in Abuja. The institution is expected to provide quality training in technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial fields, thereby contributing to the development of the nation's capital.
