In a heartwarming display of solidarity, 17 deans of faculties, over 50 directors, and several heads of departments gathered at the Senate Building to congratulate Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi on her appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
Professor Abdulfatai Jimoh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, spoke on behalf of the deans, expressing their support and confidence in the process that led to Professor Maikudi's emergence. "We are here to assure you and the world that the process leading to your emergence was devoid of rancour and in full compliance with all extant laws governing the University of Abuja," he said.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Professor Titus Ibekwe, Provost of the College of Health Sciences; Professor Abubakar Sadiq Abba, Director of the Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education; Professor Mohammed Gana Yisa, Head of the Department of Food and Agricultural Engineering; and Professor Sunday Dada Matthew, Director of the Centre for Community Development.
In her response, Professor Maikudi expressed gratitude for their support and reflected on her journey within the university. "I have been part of this university since 2008, starting my career here as a Lecturer II and rising through the ranks to this level," she said. She assured the university community that she would do everything possible to ensure that the University of Abuja moves to greater heights.
This development comes at a time when the university is focusing on promoting transparency and accountability, following recent allegations of financial mismanagement ². The university has dismissed these allegations, stating that they are baseless and designed to smear the institution's image.
