UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA STUDENTS' CULTURE IN DECLINE: A CALL TO ACTION

The University of Abuja, once renowned for its vibrant and cohesive student community, is witnessing a disturbing trend. The sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that once defined the institution's student culture is rapidly eroding.
At the heart of this decline is the breakdown of relationships and communication among students. Group chats that were once filled with lively discussions and well-wishes have fallen silent. Birthdays, once eagerly anticipated and celebrated, now pass unnoticed. The phenomenon is particularly pronounced among students in their 400 and 500 levels.
The reasons behind this decline are complex and multifaceted. Anonymous messages, often spreading malicious rumors or misinformation, have contributed to the erosion of trust and unity. As students progress through their academic journey, they seem to lose sight of the bonds that once united them.
This trend is not only alarming but also has far-reaching implications for the university community. A disjointed and disconnected student body can lead to a lack of cohesion, decreased collaboration, and a diminished sense of belonging.
In light of this, it is imperative that the university's student leaders, course representatives, and Fresher's of Aso Rock Giants and Saints take proactive steps to revitalize the student culture. We urge you to make a conscious effort to reconnect with your peers, to check in on one another, and to foster an environment of inclusivity and empathy.
To this end, we propose the introduction of "IT BEGINS WITH ME," an initiative aimed at promoting regular check-ins and fostering a sense of community among students. By working together, we can reclaim the University of Abuja's reputation as a hub of vibrant student culture and camaraderie.
Let us unite to revive the love and connection that once defined our student community. Together, we can build a more harmonious, supportive, and inclusive environment for all.
