NUESA Investigation Committee Successfully Mediates Dispute Between Pageant Winners(Petitioners) and Former Director of Socials (Respondent)
In a significant development, the NUESA Parliament Investigation Committee has successfully mediated a dispute between pageant winners and the former Director of Socials, who had allegedly failed to award the winners their due prizes. The dispute, which had been ongoing from August to September, was brought to the attention of the NUESA parliament after the winners reported feeling neglected and cheated.
Upon receiving the petition, the NUESA 11th Assembly's Speaker Constituted a committee and charged them to be fair and just in treating the case. The Committee swiftly initiated an investigation and invited both parties to appear before the committee. The investigation has been ongoing for over two weeks. Findings of the committee reported that Obella the Chairman of the 2024 Award and dinner night was part of the deal. The committee also invited the Chairman. After thorough deliberation and interrogation it was uncovered that the whole process was unconstitutional, lacked credibility and due process. In a bid for amicable resolution, the committee through the instructions of the speaker requested parties (petitioners and respondents) to speak amongst themselves to reach an agreement that is fair and good for all.
Upon returning to the committee, the parties agreed to settle the matter outside the investigation committee as the Respondents promised to compensate the winners.
The respondent, in a show of goodwill, vowed to pay a certain amount as compensation within a specified period.
In response to this gesture, the petitioners withdrew the petition.
In a heartwarming display of leadership and commitment to fairness, the NUESA President Comr. Deme, upon witnessing the agreement in a written document , generously offered to contribute part of the compensation. This gesture was in appreciation of the respondent's cooperation with the committee and their commitment to making things right.
Furthermore, the president granted pardon to the 2025 FYB Chairman who failed to follow due process, citing that the FYB committee was not screened and approved by the 10th Parliament .
The successful mediation of this dispute is a testament to the effectiveness of NUESA's dispute resolution mechanisms and its commitment to ensuring justice and fairness for all members. The outcome of this case has been met with widespread approval, with all parties leaving the negotiation table with smiles, feeling that justice has been served.
The President then concluded by appreciating the NUESA parliament for a swift response in fulfilling one of her constitutional obligations. He further appreciated the Respondents for their cooperation with the committee and respect for authority.
Finally, the president hailed and praised the petitioners for taking a bold step in speaking up and not remaining silent and for trusting in the parliament to fight their course.
The president also reiterated the commitment of his administration in fighting injustice and representing the interests of NUESites regardless of whosoever is involved as nobody is above the law.
He further issued a stern warning that everything should be done and guided by the NUESA constitution as nobody will go scout free after willful violations.
