Student leader, Comr. Ifesinachi Donald raises alarm over usage of pedestrian bridge and safety of UofA Students

The UofA school gate which is directly  faced by the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua road is always a busy spot and likely the most dangerous spot in the UofA,as thousands of her students who live at Iddo,Giri and other neighbouring students settlements are now taking a quick dash to cross the highways.  

Comr. Ifesinachi Donald made this demand that the students and other pedestrians should be saved from the danger of crossing the road in the morning and after school hours. He made this call today while interviewing some students defaulters who fail to use the pedestrian bridge due to the long distance.

"Every time I get to see my fellow students using the popular 'apian-way',I always remember that faithful day,it was on 10th of July, 2023. I was on my way home,so I crossed the busy road and boarded a vehicle going towards Zuba,when suddenly, a bus on high speed hit a student also passed through the 'apia-way' and was waiting for a vehicle to Giri,yes he later survived the accident but thar days incident made me to think humanity first"

 

Nearly every year, someone is killed on this dangerous stretch of Stroad and the solution is simple. 

The security challenge in the FCT currently makes it worrisome.

On the 17th of January, 2023,an electrical engineering student, Halima was also kidnapped by ritualists here in the school gate junction as she entered their vehicle thinking it was a normal vehicle going to Giri. All thanks to God for answering the prayers of all our students that lonely night and allowing her escape the kidnappers den.

Research have proven that only few students had to walk pedestrian bridge, a few metres away after school to cross, while others, who could not walk  up to use the pedestrian bridge, makes a quick dash, despite the inherent danger of crossing the  busy expressway.

Due to the security threats and the recent developments in FCT, the students which are the present and future of our nation must  protected at all cost from these hoodlums,who go about driving vehicles with tinted glasses and some strange plate numbers,and this must be done immediately to curb the looming danger at the UofA school gate.

I am calling on our school management, the head of FERMA, The Head of the transport unit, The CSO safety, The Student Union Government, The federal road safety corps and school club, to;

1. As a matter of urgency repair the barricade that divides the two lane,so as to make it not accessible for students to pass through.

2. Set up a students shuttle ground at the gate where all vehicle taking students should pass all the safety unit protocols, for the safety of our students, for easy recognition of the vehicles and also a medium for generation of revenue 

3. Engage the students in safety workshops and fully kickstart the road safety club of the school.

Finally, with the embedded NPE 2004 policy on Education, its a thing of national importance to protect our students by all means, so I plead with all these aforementioned authorities to adhere to this call.
