BREAKING: THE UofA SUG BACKS OUT OF PLANNED PROTEST, SUPPORTS FCT MINISTER AND NANS AFTER STAKEHOLDERS MEETING.

The leadership of the Students Union Government, the University of Abuja,says it has pulled out of the planned nationwide protest across the country.
To this end,the body of UofA students Government has directed students to go about their lectures and to stay away from the planned action,billed to commence on August 1 to August 10.
Recall that organisers of the strike have repeatedly cited economic hardship and rising inflation occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government as major reasons for plan to call people to the street in protest.
But speaking Saturday,in Abuja,when she led a delegation of both cabinet and parliamentary members of UofA to the crucial FCT Stakeholders which had in attendance the Minister of FCT, His Excellency,  Barr. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister (State) Mariya Mahmoud, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the Hon. Mandate Secretary of FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat, area council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious bodies, representatives of political parties, and representatives of women and youth groups,University of Abuja SUG, among others, SUG Vice president, Hon. Falalu Asma'u, said the University of Abuja students were no longer part of the proposed protests 

Hon. Asma'u,who was led to the meeting by the Pioneer mandate secretary to FCT women affairs, Hon. Adedayo Benjamins Laniyi(The students voice), promised that no UofA student will participate in the action.

She said," We know there's hunger in the land and students are the ones who are suffering this the most, but protest have never resulted to any good and as ambassadors of democracy we've done our best by minuting all the problems of the students to the working Minister and our amiable mommy, the mandate secretary.

"We're also taking this decision in support of the decision of our national leadership, NANS who also distanced the union from any protest. 


On his part,the Minister of FCT, His Excellency Barr. Nyesom Wike,who admitted that there was hardship in the country, explained that government had been rolling out measures to ameliorate the situation.

The minister promised to bring development and the needed welfare to the students of University of Abuja. 
We urge all students to also expect the biggest collaborations ever with the government to end poverty.
